You must have a plan<\/strong>, an idea, a direction which you want to go, in order to be able to accomplish anything. In business, this is extremely important and necessary. Whether that business is “Brick & Mortar” or an online home based business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It doesn’t have to be a formal business plan, as you are not going to need a bank loan to start online. Businesses online cost pennies compared to the expenses of a physical biz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But\nYOU<\/strong> DO NEED A PLAN.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are\nyou ready to start your own business? Are you really? Do you have\nwhat it takes? Do you even know what it takes? Do you really want to\nbuild a business? or just earn an income online? They are vastly\ndifferent. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\nPlan can help answer those questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"One<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

You can earn an income just by referring people to other people’s businesses, (like LAD15.com\/sabo<\/strong><\/a>) and take the commissions and run. You needn’t have a business at all to do this, yet you could still earn income. You also may choose to do a combination of things (as many online do).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or you can actually start your own business<\/strong>. Starting your own business can be a very exciting time. It can also be a very scary time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\nis filled with uncertainty, and doubt, and dreams, and hope, and\nfear, and celebration, all rolled up into one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\ncan mitigate these items by sorting some things out before you\nstart<\/strong>. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nis called the planning stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do you WANT to do? What will you enjoy doing? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How\nmuch will it really<\/strong> cost you, in both time and money?\nNot just the upfront cost, but ongoing costs, in both time and money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\nsee, at the beginning, there are only questions. And that’s a good\nthing. They will help you adjust your business to you, specifically. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\nis no one-size-fits-all.<\/strong> That’s a lie propagated by all the fools\nout there claiming to have the best answer for you. They Don’t. I\ndon’t.<\/strong> You are the only one who can determine if you really want\nto sell vitamins or potions to heal the sick, when they may or may\nnot. You have to be the one to decide if you want to put in the time\nand expense necessary to learn and practice building websites or\nblogs. Or is it something else you want to do? Play music, cure\ncancer. You can even turn mistakes into a profitable business,\nteaching or coaching others on what NOT TO DO!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For\nany<\/strong> business to be successful, it must make money. Make\nmore than you spend<\/strong>. It’s that simple and difficult, at the same\ntime. If you are going to call it a business, the primary goal must\nbe to make more than you spend<\/strong>. Otherwise, you really\nwant to start a government or a charity, which do not use the same\nrules as business. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For some, this is the only goal. That’s OK. For most (around 90%) of the companies out there, this is their primary focus. For the remainder, it is to further “their cause<\/strong><\/em>“. But if they want to keep getting their message out, they need to have a way to pay the bills for generating that message, so they too, must make more than they spend, or beg (charity) or forcibly take it (government).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently,\nit is estimated that 98%<\/strong> of people who try to start a business\nonline FAIL<\/strong> within their 1st year <\/strong>(only\n60% offline).<\/strong> \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nreason is quite obvious. FAILING TO PLAN.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Failure\nto Plan <\/strong><\/em>is,\nin fact,<\/strong>\n<\/strong><\/em>PLANNING\nFAILURE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

By\nunderstanding and implementing this one fact, you can quadruple\n(4x) your chance for success. <\/strong>Knowing\nthis in advance; Why would anyone NOT do it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\na traditional business, if you don’t have enough of your own money,\nor choose not to use it, you apply for a business loan. Most\nreputable lenders will require that you provide them with a business\nplan of some type. They want to see how much is going to go out, and\nhow much will come in, the time frame for these actions: operational\ncosts, cash flow, customer acquisition, management, etc. They need\nthis info down on paper to review, to make a decision, on whether\nyour business will be viable enough for them to get their money\nback<\/strong> (the loan) plus interest<\/strong> (profit). Banks sell MONEY!\nFor a profit. That’s their business<\/strong>. And they don’t even use\ntheir money to do it. They use customer’s money (savings, 401K, CDs,\netc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Side-note:\nMany banks have proven recently, that they really don’t do it too\nwell…….Failure to Plan?) \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\nshould do the same thing, but not for a bank or investor, do it\nfor yourself.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan\nfor setbacks. They will happen. Plan for change. It will happen. Plan\nan auxiliary fund. You may need it. Plan steps to measure success.\nPlan celebrations for accomplishing those tasks. Once your plan seems\nworkable, Get started<\/strong>. Then adjust your plan to\naccomplish more or less depending on how things are going. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t\ntry to write “the perfect plan”. It DOES NOT EXIST!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep\nthis in mind when you run into Analysis Paralysis<\/strong><\/em>. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Analysis\nParalysis<\/strong><\/em> is when you keep analyzing and analyzing to the\npoint where you never take ACTION, or are paralyzed with the fear of\nthe unknown, or the fear of failure. All of life in the future is\nUNKNOWN<\/strong>. So you will NEVER know what’s going to go on in the\nfuture. Take the Now as a gift<\/strong>.\nIt is, after after all, called the PRESENT<\/strong>.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"One<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Learn\nfrom the past. Plan for the future, but act now<\/strong> to make\nit happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People\nonly undertake the fear of starting something new when they are MORE\nAFRAID of staying the same. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most\nof us would be afraid to run, at full throttle, blindly, through the\nwoods or jungle. One might break a leg, or get a stick in the eye. It\nis “safer” to walk slowly and cautiously. That all changes\nif you are being chased by a bear or a tiger, who thinks you may be\nlunch. You are currently being chased by bill collectors and\nexpenses–RUN!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Even WalMart (the world’s largest retailer) has customers come into their store and leave without ever buying a thing. Or worse than that, they only buy the loss-leader<\/strong><\/em>, and nothing else. (Note: a “loss-leader” is an item that a retailer sells for less<\/strong> than their actual cost<\/strong>, just to get customers into the store to buy more profitable items while they are there.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a science that stocks bread, eggs, & milk at the back of the store). So don’t sweat the fact that people will come to your site or blog or store and NOT BUY what you are selling. This time<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe they will next time, or with followup <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An\neasy (and cheap) way to see if you really are ready, is to have some\nbusiness cards printed up. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nyou are going to be in business, even an online business, get\nbusiness cards!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Real, physical, “I can hand them out<\/em>” business cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nwill accomplish 2 things right up front. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\t1.\nMake you feel like you are <\/strong>really in Business<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\t2.\nLet others know you are serious about your Business<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ncard can just have your website and email printed on it;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

or\nyou can go the traditional route of Business name, your name, contact\nphone, email etc. You decide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\ncan get free software to print them up yourself (you will still have\nto pay for ink and card stock) on your computer, or get them done for\nyou, better and cheaper, at VistaPrint.com (around $10). If you don’t\nwant to “waste” $10, don’t go into business. ViralPrint<\/a>\nis also a good source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nactual process of thinking up what you are going to say on a little 2\nx 3 1\/2 inch card might be the first serious step<\/strong> many will\ntake in the planning stage. Since many will “not bother”,\nthat will already put you in “front of the pack”. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE:\nIf you do 10 or 15 little things that improve your chance for success\nby a mere 2% each, you will have improved your chance for success by\n20%-30%<\/strong>. Many start-ups don’t think that way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The\nPLANNING stage will help you sort through the millions of ways to\nearn a decent living from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do\nyou need a website? Should it be a blog? Do I want to sell? What\nabout training? (Both getting and giving?) Should you sell vitamins?\nDo you want to take pictures? Are you good at writing computer code?\nGraphics? Writing sales copy? Outsource? Sell training or affiliate\nproducts? Will my product do better as an audio? Video? Membership\ndrip-feed? Physical products? or as a combination of these things or\nmore? Who is my Target Market <\/strong><\/em>? \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will\nThey Buy? Do they already BUY <\/strong>similar items?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\ngood honest plan will help you figure all of that out. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along\nwith costs of BOTH time and money. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Your\n1st “mini-plan” should be when to be finished with your\nplan,)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many\npeople just plan to “get rich<\/strong><\/em>“<\/em>. My\nguess is that would be right around the 98% mark. (see the\ncorrelation between this and the failure rate?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"One<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Instead,\ntake the approach to have all of your initial investment back within\n90 days or 120 days, or whatever works with your plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then\ntry to improve that by 25% each month. And soon you will be making it\nreal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Online\nbusiness start up costs a fraction of what a brick and mortar\nbusiness would cost. Pennies on the dollar!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nyou spend $300 to start your business, your plan should have it so\nthat you can realistically recoup that $300 within 90 days (or\n$100\/month). Break it down even further: to recouping $25\/week. Same\nthing, but in bite-size pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once\nyou have recouped your initial investment, and there will ALWAYS\nBE AN INITIAL INVESTMENT<\/strong>, simply grow that by 25% each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\nthe example above, to grow by 25%, the first month (after 90 days)\nyou would need to grow to $125\/month. Then to $156\/month, and so on. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your\nplan might want that to be weekly. That’s OK, too. It is YOUR PLAN. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\nare numerous ways to accomplish this steady growth. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\nare a few ways. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"One<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Improve\nwhat you are doing (sales copy, price, etc) to get 25% more paying\ncustomers. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nyou had 10, you now want 13. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nyou can’t or don’t want to do it, or don’t know how, you could\noutsource it (any task you want) to places like elance.com or\nodesk.com. If you are good at anything, list your services for hire\nat elance or odesk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(2018\nEditor\u2019s note:- both have now been combined as UPWORK<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nyou do a search for either of those, you will find many people\nrunning businesses teaching how to use these services. Before you buy\nanything, know that the sites themselves have training available to\nyou for free<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reduce\nyour failure rate by 25%. Use an autoresponder to further educate the\nvisitors you are already getting<\/strong>. Reach out (advertising,\naffiliates etc.) to 25% more people, or a percentage based on your\nsuccess rate. If you are currently converting 1 in 5, improve that to\n1 in 4, and get 8 to see the offer, or 8 more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just\nso you know: Improving a conversion rate from 1 in 5 to 1 in 4 is a \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

20\n% IMPROVEMENT!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start\nwith an Idea: What do you want to do? \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\nwould be YOUR DREAM JOB? Regardless of education, background, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How\nwill you accomplish it? (online, offline, website, blog, affiliate,\netc)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\ntools will I need? (computer, software, domain, hosting,\nautoresponder, advertising, 800 number, etc)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\nwill be my initial costs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\nkind of profit margin do I have?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How\nmany sales to break even?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How\nmany sales to replace my current income?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\ntime frame can I realistically expect?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How\nmuch time can I devote to this? (including learning, building,\ntraining, marketing, fulfillment, customer service, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And\nany other questions you may want to add or delete. It is your plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please\nkeep in mind that “sales and commissions” are from what you\npersonally can control. DO NOT add in things like “my downline\nwill get this much for me”. They will never<\/strong> treat it like\nyou do. Some may do better, many will do worse. DO NOT PLAN FOR\nOTHERS, only for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s where some of the lies come in (see LIES<\/a> chapter). Matrix “trickle down”, and “MLM growth” are a sales ploy and NOT TO BE USED IN YOUR PLAN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please\nfinish reading this entire book (maybe twice or more) BEFORE actually\nwriting your plan. You can certainly make notes, but wait to get all\nthe info before making your plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once\nyou have your plan, and feel pretty good, not perfect, just pretty\ngood about it, then get started. A plan is a guide. It is NOT CAST IN\nSTONE. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\nwrite it. You can change it. That’s the beauty of Starting A\nBusiness Online<\/strong><\/em>, or off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plan for “down the road” NOT to have all of your eggs in one basket. As you begin FOCUS on just one thing at a time. Use shared hosting<\/a><\/strong> (the kind for $5\/month), and free tools<\/a><\/strong>, when available (and there are a lot available), when starting out. As you grow, put some of the profit BACK INTO YOUR BUSINESS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grow\nyour own security with other people’s (your customers) money, just\nlike the banks. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nis a planning thing that many online and offline fail to do:\nDiversify your hosting, your mailing lists, your products and\nservices. When you plan this way life presents fewer stumbles. If one\nbusiness\/source\/supplier goes out of business, your income is not\ncompletely shot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And\nit all started with a good realistic workable PLAN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
